What about IPL?

Unwanted Hair

 IPL!

The procedure is suitable for virtually all hair and skin types, including dark-skinned clients, and quickly and efficiently eliminates hair from all parts of the body including the face.

IPL uses the energy from a light source, which is absorbed by the pigments in the skin, hair and blood vessels. The hair is removed by using the light to generate heat in the melanin in the hair, which is transferred to the dermal papilla (root) to destroy it. Unlike traditional epilation methods such as electrolysis the IPL treatment is completely non-invasive.

The applicator (hand piece) is placed on the surface of the skin and the light is pulsed through it. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated. Discomfort is minimal and apart from a temporary reddening of the skin, the majority of clients experience no further side effects. On average clients require five to eight treatments.

The sessions are timed dependent on the cycle of hair growth. This can be monthly, eight or twelve weeks apart. Facial treatments usually take approximately 10 minutes using a standard applicator head whereas legs or an entire back can be treated in around 30 minutes.

A full consultation is carried out prior to treatment to assess skin and hair type for suitability. As the IPL settings are individual to each client. It is necessary on occasion to perform a patch test and this will be left to my discretion. Prices start at £45 per session for treatment of the upper lip.

.........and for the Men too

It’s a fact that more men than ever are shaving / waxing / shedding hair in order to feel more groomed. Swimmers and cyclists get rid of body hair for highly competitive events. Footballers are jumping on the bandwagon and showing off their polished physiques (ref David Beckham unveiling smooth legs for a Japanese promotional tour and Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg quickly following suit for sexy underwear photo shoots). But it doesn’t have to mean pain usually associated with a beauty salon.

Skin Rejuvenation

IPL Photorejuvenation for sun-damaged skin

The seven deadly signs of the sun

They say prevention is better than cure when it comes to the sun’s harmful effects and many will have already heard the message from leading experts with tips and advice on how to minimise UV exposure. However, there are few of us whose skin has not already been corrupted of its innocence and vitality and up until recently this was an irreversible condition.  To reverse the damage is to    reverse ageing skin so how can we uncover the sun’s seven deadly sins that make up the signs of ageing?

IPL's non-invasive professional treatment has become more popular in the last few years with celebrities using such solutions rather than the trauma and expense required with surgery. A lunch-time quick fix which can take 5 sessions to look 10 year’s younger a much better resolve, results without going under the knife.

It has been discovered that there is a common pattern through the seven tell-tale signs to reveal how far down the ageing process your skin has become.  These include:

20's - 30's

1. Dry and tighter skin

caused by the decrease in collagen and Elastin

2. Discolouration

skin becomes lifeless and dull as a result of decrease in hydration

30s – 40s

3. Fine lines and wrinkles

plus all of the above with deeper furrows running from the nose to the mouth

4. Sun or Age Spots

hyper pigmentation caused by UV overexposure

5. Broken veins

these may start to show up as tiny red spots initially

40s – 50s

6.  Under eye puffiness

Common to find that they take longer to subside after you wake.

7.  Rosacea

visible blood vessels or a reddening of the face.  Although Rosacea is a condition that can happen at any age it is more likely to become worse with age and particularly with sun exposure.

The IPL photorejuvenation treatment can help with all of these skin problems safely and effectively. It works by sending controlled pulses of light directly into the upper layers of the skin which is then absorbed by the body’s own natural chemicals – melanin and haemoglobin in the red blood cells. These convert the light into heat which is used to destroy only the damaged areas of the skin. The fibroblasts within the mast cells of the skin are stimulated to build more collagen which in turn will improve the elasticity, tone and texture of the skin. So if you have a combination of all the above signs, IPL will work on all conditions simultaneously, which in turn will make your skin look younger with visible results after one or two sessions.

 After 6 Treatments

Typically the treatment will reduce the skins age by 2 years per session hence 5 sessions can give up to a visual reduction of 10 years in the skins texture and tone. Normally 3-5 treatments are required at 3 weekly intervals. Three weeks is considered the period to achieve peak levels of collagen production following treatment.

Results are accumulative, however, with no down-time or after effects, a customer may wish to have a one off treatment to freshen their skin for an important event. One whole face can be treated in 30 minutes. Periodic refreshers may be required every 3-6 months after the initial course.

Success of the treatment varies according to the individual. However the better the diet and lifestyle of the individual and the greater care they take of their skin, the better the result.

Vascular Lesions

Rosacea, Vein and Vascular Treatment

IPL offers the perfect solution to broken facial veins and rosacea.
The light is absorbed into the targeted blood vessels causing them to coagulate and break down. There is little or no down time making it the perfect treatment to have in a lunch hour. Typically 3-6 sessions are required.

Rosacea is a chronic condition, IPL is an excellent aid to reduce and relieve effects. The treatment is quick and relatively pain free. It is often necessary to do what is called a trigger diary. Often people with this condition find that certain things trigger a flare up of the condition. Carrying out this self assessment can aid your treatment and the home care that you will need to do to help maintain your results.
Typically you need 2 – 4 sessions to reduce the redness and you may have to maintain the reduction at intervals as the rosacea is an underlying condition.

However if you work out your own personal triggers these maintenance sessions may not be needed or the results can be prolonged. In research notes it appears that this condition lasts between 8 – 13 years. Usually a combination of antibiotics prescribed by your GP and continual IPL treatments will achieve immediate relief from the condition. Experience has shown me that treatments may only have to be repeated 2 or maybe 3 times a year. Anyone with this condition will understand how fantastic this is.
